RCIS now connected to John Deere Operations Center

Digital technology is rapidly changing the agriculture industry and the way agents and farmers work. Precision agriculture (ag) is one such area driving this transformation and one that RCIS is heavily investing in.
Building on our precision ag capabilities, RCIS is now connected to the John Deere Operations Center. This connection allows farmers who are insured through RCIS to electronically connect their field data to our systems for a more seamless, accurate and secure crop insurance reporting experience.
The John Deere Operations Center is a popular cloud-based tool for farmers to access, analyze, manage and share their farm information from anywhere. The process of recording and reporting planting and production information becomes simpler and more streamlined during a particularly busy part of the year.
At no extra cost, a farmer utilizing the John Deere Operations Center as their farm management system can have their completed planting or harvest data pulled directly from their account. Farmers’ control with whom they connect through the John Deere Operations Center and what data connected partners, like RCIS, can access.
“Once the farmer establishes an account on RCIS.com for Producers and links to their John Deere Operations Center account, the farmer’s data will be automatically pulled from the account for their agent to download,” says RCIS Mapping Product Manager Nick Luett. “After the initial download, their agent can directly pull the data into our RCIS FarmMapsSM mapping system to generate reports for signature, removing the hassle of paperwork, travel, manual entry and human error.”
Prior to our precision ag capabilities, often a farmer would need to travel and bring a thumb drive containing planting data to their agent. Their agent would need to use an intermediary software system to convert the raw data into an acreage report, which was then submitted to RCIS for processing within our systems for submission to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency.
“What used to be a timely, manual documentation and reporting process now can be handled in less time and with greater precision, and with equipment and tools that farmers and agents, for the most part, already have in place,” explains Luett. “This is a game-changer for all involved.”
Additionally, the new connection positions RCIS to use more precision ag information in the claim process going forward. Luett explains, “When harvested production records can be more easily accessed, it can save farmers time in providing the information needed in the claims process.”
Overall, this is another step in the journey RCIS is on to develop an end-to-end precision ag solution that improves the overall agent and farmer experience.
“In the last year, RCIS policyholders have significantly increased the amount of acreage reported through our precision ag services,” shares Business Head of RCIS Mike Day. “We are making solid progress and expect continued growth with this more streamlined process for agents and policyholders.”
Day concludes, “Overall, we’re excited about this collaboration with John Deere Operations Center to offer best-in-class precision ag services to keep farmers doing what they do best, which is providing food, feed, fuel and fiber to a growing world population. As precision ag continues to play a vital role on the farm, we will continue to innovate in this area to address our customers’ evolving risk management needs now and in the future.”
