Welcome to Zurich Construction Insights

My introduction to commercial insurance for construction came during my senior year of college when I was on my way back from fast-pitch softball practice. I saw a sign for Zurich Construction, which was on campus to recruit talent. Wearing sweatpants and sandals, I wasn’t exactly dressed for success. But I was curious and went anyway, thinking I could slip into the back of the room and listen to a presentation. Fading into the woodwork was not possible, as it turned out, because I was the only student there at that moment. I cringed at the time but count myself lucky today that the Zurich representatives invited me up front for an informal interview anyway.

Years after I first set foot in that room, this industry continues to keep me on my toes. To say things change quickly in construction is an understatement. One thing that doesn’t change is the value of really listening to our valued customers and brokers. Over the last few years, you’ve told us three things consistently:

  1. You value a steady hand and clear head as volatility turns some carriers’ underwriting approaches upside down overnight.
  2. You recognize that consistency and creativity coexist at Zurich.
  3. You need data and insights more than ever to manage risks in a transformative time.

Zurich Construction Insights is one outcome of what you shared with us. The content in this edition focuses largely on casualty. We are all vested in confronting the acute challenges in areas such as auto, not to mention the ever-present “Focus Four” risks that no one can ignore if we want crews to get home safe each night. We also discuss the weather and climate-related risks that are intensifying seemingly everywhere all at once. We look forward to further conversation on the topics presented. Please reach out to your broker or risk engineer to arrange a discussion on sharing additional insights and how to best help protect your business from the future of risk.

Best regards,
