Rob Page Director of Operations - Programs Support, Zurich North America
For a long time, Rob Page was determined not to be an insurance person. But after a decade of working at Zurich and thriving in different roles, he decided, “Well, I guess I’m an insurance person.” Gaining more industry knowledge, he continued to excel within the organization and found great camaraderie with his colleagues and satisfaction in new levels of responsibility as he took them on.
After 19 years working at Zurich, it turns out Rob is a pretty darn good insurance person.
Rob first joined Zurich as a Business Analyst in 2002 and — except for a brief, six-month stint with another employer — he’s been here ever since. He has served as an Assistant Manager and Manager with the Application Support Center, and also previously worked on the Statistical Reporting team and briefly managed a team for Zurich Canada.
In his current role as Director of Operations - Programs Support, Rob works to combine outside data from Program Administrators with all of Zurich’s data, constantly helping to create the best systems and processes for each Program Administrator while also maintaining efficiency and consistency within Zurich’s own systems.
Born in Nebraska (and still a Cornhuskers fan), Rob is the son of a church pastor. He also spent time in northern Minnesota before settling in the Chicago suburbs for the last 25 years. He went to Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois on a football scholarship and, after graduating with a major in Business Administration, went to work immediately for Zurich. Rob also holds a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Judson University in Elgin, Illinois. He lives with his wife (whom he met at Zurich) and their three children in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
We asked Rob to share a bit more about himself and his work with Zurich.
What do you like about your job? Why is it a good fit for you?
I’m a problem solver at heart, so the role is fantastic because there’s some new challenge every single day. I always tell people, “I’ve made a career out of hating to do the same thing twice.” That’s why this role is a good fit for me ... we’re always coming up with new solutions.
What has been the biggest thing you’ve seen change during your time with Zurich?
Technology! During my time in Programs, we have only continued to add channels to work with PAs on the technical front. With every innovation, there’s a new system and solution to learn and navigate.
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
My Dad. He was clergy, but prior to that he was a newspaper reporter. He was part of a team that won the Pulitzer Prize. Through these roles, he taught me to have an inquisitive nature, to not be afraid of asking questions, and never letting a question go unasked.
If you could trade places with anyone in the world for a day, who would you choose?
That’s a hard question because I really enjoy my life ... but just for a day? I’ve always really enjoyed the Mannings, so maybe I’d go with Peyton Manning. As a football player growing up, I enjoyed their [the Mannings] approach to life as well as football, and maybe for a day I would enjoy the success they have had.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend or your days off?
You’d find me playing with my kids. I really enjoy my family and trying to attend all their various activities. I also enjoy doing house projects. My wife and I enjoy fixing up our home and making each room more “us.” I also enjoy landscaping and working outside.
What are your “bucket list” destinations for travel?
I would love to visit Israel and Australia or New Zealand. I’d love to see the topography of New Zealand after watching the “Lord of the Rings” movies. A little bit different than northern Illinois!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Very few things making me happier than watching either a football game or sci-fi movie with a Blue Moon beer in my hand. I love movies like “Inception” and “Interstellar” that make you think a bit, but are also action-packed.
